What’s the future of wastewater?

What if wastewater could be a resource for the circular economy?

The project explores the fragility of the water system that ties to the topic of water circulation. In this work, glass and ceramic were used to express the vulnerable water system and how the untreated waste water from the land can cause negative consequences once the toxin sewage enters the water system. The future of wastewater treatment presents many possibilities as it does challenges. Sewage sludge can be used as fertilizer in agriculture and also generate green power. If ignored this indigestible sludge and toxic sewage will surround and engulf our lands. The concept was developed together with the water researcher D.Sc. Candidate Juho Kaljune at Aalto University.
